Pharma in New England

New England’s roster of local companies reads like a who’s who list for the pharmaceutical industry—including Merck, Schering-Plough, Amgen, Pfizer and more. The region recently scored another coup by landing a $1.1 billion Bristol-Myers Squibb biologics facility in Devens, Massachusetts. 2007 promised more than $1.7 in new projects scheduled to begin during the year, ensuring that region retains its status as an industry favorite. As part of this effort, the $180 million National Biocontainment Laboratory is currently under construction in the greater Boston area; supporters hope the lab will serve as a lightening rod for additional investment.
